LOTS of great suggestions, unfortunately most still won’t work in
my situation. However, I am considering outdoor mounted sensors.
This could address all my concerns IF I can find weatherproof sensors
that are unobtrusive to work outside. My lifts are LiftMaster Jackshaft
design (love the space saving and very quiet operation.
The search is on........off to my garage door people; seeing Steve Leckenby
at Crawford Garage Doors in Mount Vernon on I-5 between Seattle and
Vancouver BC.

Unless things have changed in recent years, these things cannot just be swapped from brand to brand, model to model. The problem with attaching them to the front of the track is the door itself will trip the beam and reverse when closing. The only way I could imagine that working would be if the sensors were mounted completely outside the garage. That leaves them out in the weather, which they are not designed for, and you are back to the issues with leaves and such. If you live where it snows, that will be another problem.

How about small sensors that can be attached to the front of the track (edge facing outside)? These are much smaller than what I have (I had to build a little wood house around my sensor because the kids (5 year olds) kept knocking them out of alignment).Â
