I basically have the same setup in my 55 first series as well. I think you are correct with the 700r4 years. Best to stay away from the 4L60e's which are all electronic. For the rear end. I have one out of a 2000 Camaro SS. It is as cheap with disc brakes and posi but it is a little wide. I am running 18" rims with 255's out back. They fit just need max off set on rims. I think like 6.75 inches.
