[Nobbc] Abnormally high oil pressure

Hello NOBBC members,
 
I was out for a short drive a couple of weeks ago and noticed that my oil
pressure was registering abnormally high (40 PSI at idle) so I cut my short
drive even shorter.  Yesterday I started the car up and the oil pressure gauge
quickly pegged at 100+ PSI (normally it registers around 80 PSI at a cold
start) so I shut it down.  For what it is worth, the oil level is correct and
the coolant is free of oil contamination.
 
Can any of the more mechanically minded members offer any suggestions as to
what might be going on?
