That’s interesting, I never knew there was a 948 DIESEL! That must be as rare as rocking-horse poo...

Hi,

The list is very, very quiet. I think because there are so many FB groups out there now. I recall the days when there were 200 odd messages and I struggled to read them all.

The new house is great, but still so much to do outside and in the workshop. It's a bit like a Mini project, it never seems to end.

Right now it's the coldest part of the year here in Australia. We had snow on the weekend, which is quite rare. The Mini and Moke and tucked up for the winter, but I have had my old Land Rover Series 3 out a couple of times.

The Mini (1966 Mk1 Austin Super-Deluxe 850cc) has a big oil leak I need to sort. I suspect it's a diff seal.

The 1971 Moke is jumping out of second gear. When I rebuilt the engine and gearbox a few years ago the dog teeth on second gear looked a bit dodgy. At the time I could not source a new DAM6240 wide ratio A+ second gear for love nor money. So I had to reuse it. Guess what? It started jumping out of second gear within a few months. The part has now become available new, so I bought one. I really cannot be bothered tearing it all down to change it. It's been like that for about 6,000 miles, so it can wait a few more!

My 1965 Mini Traveller project is sleeping in a shipping contained, where it has been stored for the last four years while the new workshop and house was built. In the spring I will drag it to the workshop.

On a sort-of Mini related front, a couple of years ago I bought a 1966 BMC Mini Tractor very cheap. These have an A-series 948cc Diesel engine. With a whole 21hp it's no rocketship. But it does make me wonder what would happen if I turbo'd it using MG Metro bits and gave the injector pump a tweak. I guess I would probably end up with Mini 850 levels of power for a short time until it blew up :P

Cheers,

I've still got that on my SSD. We really need to switch to facebook
messenger or whatsapp.

I don't want a "user experience" - I just want stuff that works.
