FB Hi1
I have not posted anything since the hey days of the list ( You, Scott Beavis,
Andy Murray, Rocky Frisco, Marcel Chickhak et al). I have not seen the quick
release you have but a few tghoughts are

*Could be the bbushes at top and bottom of the column. Has the column been
removed from the outer casing ? often they fail for no apparent reason if the
column has been disturbed or removed

*Dot punching a few spots on the column splines is another 'play reduction'
method

*The release mechanism in the steering wheel can stick. squirt some wd40 in
and make sure it springs back all the way and all the balls go fully in to the
grooves.

* Adjust the column ( pinch bolt) to present a few more mm of the splined
column back up - gave the boss the clearance it needed to bite properly.

But if it is only within the mechanism then I guess the above will not apply

  Howdy!

#9 is fitted with a quick release steering wheel like one of these

heel-boss-hub-spline-3-bolt-6-bolt.html

It is being a right pain as there is some side to side play between the
wheel and the column within the quick release mechanism, the wheel is very
solidly connected to the boss.... this is an MOT fail!

Any thoughts about how to take up this play? I was going to drill a hole
though the mechanism and the column to fit spring steel drift pin but it
would not be an easy job as the ring you pull towards the wheel to release it
shrouds the result of the mechanism

  Kind regards
