That sounds more like bearing shims - the ones to give a specified end-float of the hub on the spindle which is needed on the MGB roller bearings at least.  After that the disc position is what it is.

There is a long article here https://www.mgexp.com/article/mg-midget-wheel-bearings.html which describes Midget/Sprite  and MGB bearings, saying that the former is not designed to be shimmed whereas the latter is.  Nevertheless they go on to describe shimming the Midget and Sprite, but on the same basis as for the MGB i.e. to get a certain play in the bearings.
