Ah, the old "splash lubrication" theory.   This was the basis for the 
the idea that you would damage your gearbox if you towed the car any 
distance with the rear wheels on the ground.  I often wondered if the 
proponents of this theory thought that the oil "splashed" all the way 
back to the tailshaft bearing in the non-OD gearbox.   Nope, there are 
passages to send oil back there and return it.  Anyway I towed my '69 
MGB non-OD behind my motor home all the way from south TX to New England 
and back with all 4 wheels on the ground, the driveshaft connected and 
the gearbox in neutral with no ensuing problem.  Funny how these myths 
take on a life of their own.
