[Mgs] Wire wheels

Wire wheels look great, but give a lot to take care about.
Cleaning is the least , but most repetitive task.
Keeping the wheels in good order is more difficult.
During the restauration of my BGT with chromed wire wheels, one wheel had
all spokes lose.
Because the overall good state of hub, rim and spokes I had it trued by a
specialist.
Nowadays I would not do that anymore.
In the past 4 years both rear wheels got play in several spokes, which is
here an MOT failure.
Replacing the spokes is not easy, as the old nipples are rusted solid to the
spoke.
A new wheel is not so very costly over here, so I replaced both.

Also keep the splines well greased annually.

Replacing the steel wheels by wire wheels takes more than the wheels only.
The front hubs should be replaced by types fit for the wire wheels.
At the rear it is the same, where the job also impacts replacing the rear
wheel drive half shafts.

A purist always would keep the car as original as it has left the factory...

Your choice at the end.

I assume the website of Barney Gaylord http://www.mgaguru.com/ can give
specific info about these conversions on an MGA.

Good luck!

Cheers,

Should I change from steel to wire wheels? If so can anyone send me info to
do this task?
