[Mgs] MG makes the list

I think he was referring to the soldiers who were stationed in 
Germany and other places after the war.  Soldiers returning 
immediately (1945) after the war would not have had time to have 
sussed out and bought one.  Also cars were not really available in 
quantity until after 1950.   My Dad, with lots of clout, wanted a new 
car when he was in the Gold Coast (now Ghana) and his choice was a 
Standard Vanguard - silver, or a Standard Vanguard - silver, or 
..............you guessed it, a Standard Vanguard - and yes!  also silver.
