The 72 with HIF carbs seems to idle better with chrome air cleaners.  I
attribute this to less restrictive air flow.  The engine falters at a higher
speed in third or fourth gear when I let off the gas and apply the throttle
again.  (It may do it in all gears; I just don't drive the car that way in
first and second gear.)  Once I reinstall the stock air cleaners, the engine
is strong regardless of how I apply the throttle.
