Sounds like you're on the right track with the A/O.

I don't have a cabinet blaster, but I have used coal slag with good results
for general blasting with my pressure blaster.

Has anyone used coal slag in a cabinet blaster? It is awfully cheap and is
safer to deal with than some of the other media.
