Gasket the right way round?  I've not done a 4-cylinder oil pump but it is
standing practice with the V8 to fill the pump body with Vaseline on
reassembly (mind you, they also have the benefit that you can put a drill on
the end of the pump shaft when the distributor is removed so you don't even
have to crank the engine!).  Try injecting oil down the outlet from the rear
of the block to the cooler.

  the right gasket on the oil pump .  cranked it last night , no spark
  plugs in, and no pressure as of yet.
