Max,

I agree with the other posters about the baterry terminal approach, but 
another thing I've found that can be a problem is the ignition switch. If 
the contacts inside the switch are dirty, they can block current to the 
solenoid on the starter. It can be dismantled and cleaned in no time, if 
you've a mind to. Test by hot-wiring.
