Hi Pat and several others,
You are right, Morris Minor and MG TC,TD,TF Midgets dizzies do in fact
rotate CCW when viewed from above. I was wrong to say it was a Morris Minor
distributor I was using in the J2. I have corrected the note below.

The distributor I am using is a Lucas 50050 which does have CW ( clock
ways ) rotation when viewed from above and therefore the rotation is correct
for the J2 or P types. The Lucas 50050 distributor is from a Hillman Minx
1954/55 or Humber Hawk 1946/50 and 1953. Lucas 50050 distributor has a 10
degree advance plate, same as J2 or P type. Many parts are the same as T
type, body, cap, points, condenser plate and maybe the cam. The action
plate, rotor, weights are opposite for the CW rotation.

If you want more than 10 degrees advance, you can use a Lucas 40074
distributor, also CW rotation viewed from the top, which gives 17 degrees
advance. Lucas 40074 is from a Hillman Minx 1939/40 and Triumph saloon or
roadster 1946-48.
Or you can drill out the size of the advance weight stop holes in the 40050
distributor slightly to get more than 10 degrees advance.

I apologize to all who rushed out to the local junk yard and bought Morris
Minor distributors when in fact the correct distributor was from the
derelict Hillman Minx parked beside the Minor.

No idea yet how the J2 runs at 5000 rpm, just fast idle in the garage now
till I finish a ton of work on it.

Best regards and glad to see people actually read my emails and correct my
mistakes.

Bob,

* Congrats on getting the J-type to run!
However, postwar Minors and Midgets have dizzies (eg 40048) which rotate CCW
viewed from the top. If you rotate them CW for a MMM they will not advance
with increasing speed.
How does J3017 run at 5500 rpm?

* Hope this helps

Cheers ..... Pat
