We used McCoy Red Heads
029  049 and 061 in the early 50's
I was too young to fly, but my dad, and both brothers were very active in 
U-control speed.  Dad would start those things up in the basement for a 
brief test.  The smell and sound scared the Sh#^ out  of me.
That period made me love the odor of Nitro and Castor Oil.  (he mixed his 
own fuel).
