Tom,

My belief is that with a decent dry sump pump, you will make plenty of
vacuum - provided everything else seals OK. On one dry sump rat motor we
have, the front seal in the cast Weiand front cover does not really align
with the crank. We don't blow oil out, but we never make vacuum and we do
eat seals. (no dig on Weiand, it could be from the block being line bored,
eh?)
Anyway, look for something else before you blame the pump - if the motor is
really sealed, the scavenge pump will do it's job.

Hello to all,

First, I want to thank all who responded to my query about the crankcase
systems that use exhaust for to produce vacuum. I have a dry sump system,
three stage evacuation, and a closed breather system with a vacuum/pressure
valve. I thought the oil pump would produce enough vacuum, but was still
blowing oil out the front of the motor, I think the front seal, during
Speedweek. After our teardown, I think it was too much blow-by that was the
problem. Will try it again at the WOS as is with the refreshed engine and if
I still have a problem will move on the exhaust vacuum systems.

The reason for this post is that a friend of mine that is getting his
Studebaker ready for the salt needs a pair of 18" by 8.00, 30 inch tires,
new or used. If anyone has a lead get back to me. Thanks!
