A good friend just returned from a trip to the Silverstone race circuit in
the UK. He rented a Ford Fiesta with a diesel and recorded the mileage very
carefully. He got 49mpg crawling around town, doing 75 on the motorway, but
still averaged 49 miles per US gallon. Unfortunately this model is not sold
in the US.

Somewhere about 20 yrs ago Holmann and Moody ( of NASCAR fame) were on the
local news with a Ford Escort which they installed a Perkins Diesel and
were
claiming 75 mpg. I would love to put together a small pick up truck with

this engine and a 5 speed gear box. Anything diesel has to be better than
a
gasoline engine.

   Good luck !!! Tony G LI,NY
