Thank you all for your replies.
Well, the bolts are in but I can't say I'm particularly proud of the way I
did it. For some unfathomable reason the misalignment looked a little
smaller(?) today.
I decided that I could apply a little brute force. I took the front rhs bolt
and cleaned up its thread then tapered its end quite considerably with a
grinder. That allowed it to be forced through with a rather large hammer. As
I said, not proud of that. Brute force and ignorance etcetc. I felt I had to
do it as the car was basically crippled without that coil spring being
secured. The fourth bolt went in pretty easily. So there, it's done.
I noticed that the plate to which the anti-roll bar is attached is somewhat
mangled at the innermost hole so that plate will be replaced together with
the 4 bolts and the rubber bushes at either end of the anti-roll bar. I'm
not going to do the work myself.I've been ill/may still be ill (results
pending) and just don't feel up to another battle. I will definitely wind up
with roller bearings in the steering and new king pins if necessary. I
bought some NOS king pins at the excellent Beaulieu Autojumble a few years
back. They've been sitting in the attic since then which seems a waste. If
necessary, they'll go in. Might as well as that area will be in bits??
Thanks anyway, Simon
