[Healeys] Oil Leak

During our return home from the 2008 AHCA Conclave in San Diego, my oil pressure gauge needle began to vibrate rapidly. I discovered a drop of oil on the fitting from the oil pipe to the gauge. Air in the pipe will cushion the pressure pulses from the pump, and if the air bleeds out it will cause the needle to vibrate. I disconnected the fitting for a few seconds and reconnected it, vibration eliminated.
Cheers!

Hi Rich,
A more likely suspect is the fitting at the rear of the oil pressure gauge. Later Healeys utilized a washer between the pipe and the gauge (P/N 2K4936).
Check if there is oil on the nut at the back of the gauge. If so, try tightening it; if the leak persists, you likely need to replace the washer.

Harold

Greetings Healeyphiles,
I noticed several oil spots on my left pant leg front when I returned yesterday from a 250 mile drive indicating that the source was somewhere under the dash. The speedometer cable was replaced a few weeks prior to this road trip. No other work has been done under the dash. Could the speedo cable possibly be the source of the leak and if so, what need I do to stop it? Where else should I look if the speedo cable is not the culprit. Thanks for your collective wisdom..
