A friend who stopped in England en route to the LeMans Classic in 2012 told me that he remarked to the Brit he was visiting that he was surprised that the man—who lived in the country—didn’t own a pickup truck.

* One sees very few pickup trucks in metropolitan areas. One sees so-called “Chelsea Tractors” in the smarter areas of town which are mainly top of the range Range-Rovers that never leave town. So, these are basically a waste of space. In the country, one sees pickups which are, mostly, owned by farmers/timber people etc. Around here, Devon, you’ll often see them with sheep in the back! The other pickups around here are mostly owned by posers who don’t realize how silly they look.

The response was that no one who did not have a business need for such a vehicle was permitted to own one. Any Brits out there who can vouch for this?

*	That’s not true. Nonsense, in fact. They are prohibitively taxed but ownership is not restricted. Of course, one might argue that said posers should be prohibited but that’s a whole other topic!

Jean you will recall this photo that I took at a highway fuel stop when we were in the UK. Dozens of cars a few small delivery vans but not a giant SUV or pickup truck to be seen and it was that way throughout the entire area that we visited.
