I agree with you about the head gasket, but be aware that both mating surfaces will need to have a fine machined surface to make it work. That may require removal and disassembly of the engine.

Check the head for warps and have the valve guides and valves checked out. Have the machine shop crack chec the head also. This is the head gasket that I use, never any issues. Warning it is $$$.

While it is not a good thing to see, it could be worse.? There was a time when the available aftermarket head gaskets seemed to let go in that location.P

Driving home from a two hundred mile jaunt, my car had some problems going uphill. Made some weird noises and so I pulled off the road and being 14 miles from home, called a tow truck. Did a compression check when I got home, cylinders 1 and 2, 150 lbs! Cylinders 3 and 4, 0 lbs!?
Pulled the head and found this. Not a good sight.?
