[Healeys] Battery cable

In his initial inquiry Alan asked for "The best way possible" and also
asked for input about using welding cable, indicating his willingness to
depart from original. Clearly there are alternatives which is why I posted
about using battery cable versus welding cable and I should add that
marine-grade cable, while expensive, would probably be the best choice as
the wire is tinned and the jacket is fuel-proof.

Same deal with battery styles and connections--if you don't mind
periodically dealing with corrosion building up at battery posts then stick
with "original" style batteries and post clamps. However I think the "best
way possible" would be to use a battery that has threaded terminals,
preferably on the side and use tinned marine-grade terminals that are
soldered and/or staked on.

People poo-poo the term "marine-grade" as simply being a means of
increasing the price of a part. This may be the case with some things but
there is a real difference when it comes to electrical wires, terminals and
switches. Go to a store that sells good marine hardware--preferably an
independent versus a chain such as West Marine where everything is
blister-packaged.

Best--Michael Oritt
