[Healeys] Starter electrical problem not solved with new starter. Gremlins?

I think David is absolutely correct.
I would suggest taking the ground cable off the battery then use a battery
jumper (booster) cable between the battery terminal and a good ground,
something like a bumper mount, then try the starter.
