[Healeys] Door Brace -

Yes there is a way to tell the difference. Above the spark plug on the cast iron head there is a small dimple in the casting, that is not there on the alloy heads.

Jean,

I will have to re-read the current guidelines, but as far as I'm concerned, if an aluminium head is "Indistinguishable" from the original, there should be ZERO deductions!

I have one on my car and it is "Indistinguishable" from the original. Just like I have a period original 3.54 rear end and other unseen period options for my stock, non LeMans BN1 that will out run any "stock 100M". The whole point of AH Concours was to encourage our cars to be driven, and to NOT be "Trailer Queens" as are a lot of marque Concours.

Another member of the Concours Committee has the exact same engine mods that I do, so I'm in good company. Neither of our cars can be distinguished as not being 100% stock from the factory in 1955.

Cheers,

Curt

    DO NOT REMOVE!

That bracing was original to late BN2s, and as such is absolutely correct. It's a not well known detail, but it is how it came from the factory (Jensen).

    Cheers,

Quite possibly the reason why this was done.

I think the doors would be prone to oilcanning without the braces.

Jean, I have now had an opportunity to check the doors in my low mileage BN2 and voilà there they are ... inside both doors.

Must have been only on later cars because neither of my BN1s has them.

Has anyone ever run into something like this, this is what appears to be a brace that was in the driver side door in the BN2 I am currently restoring. At the top it was attached to the horizontal wood piece held there with two countersunk wood screws. At the bottom, it entered and turned to the inside and was secured with two rivets to the door bottom frame piece.
