My understanding is three types, Chambered, sometimes called Baffled, Turbo and Glasspack.Chambered / Baffled is as the name implies. The exhaust gas enters the muffler can is is routed through one or many chambers and around baffles with the intent to limit exhaust pulses and noise.Turbo uses multiple perforated tubes between the inlet and outlet. Glass packs are straight through single perforated tube with fiberglass of other fibers around the tube. The 100's had a see through muffler. Can't speak to the later mufflers but my recollection is they were similar to the early ones just two tubes and never lasted very long. Had a lot of exhaust systems made up and installed by local Midas (or similar) shops.Perry

Ira,
Which part did you blow out? If the pipes are still in good shape, a muffler shop shop should be able to weld some new mufflers in there (should be good for a few years at least). I'm still running an Ansa I bought three decades ago, albeit with some 'Heartthrob' glass packs stitched in; it's got a bit raspier sound--sometimes, people think I have a Nasty Boy--but I don't hear it much at speed. Some shops can fab a whole new set for you--minus downpipes--and it might not less than Moss's 'Tourist Trophy' chromed set. Mike Lempert, of steering wheel fame, was going to fab some Ansa knockoffs, but never did.
Side note: There are two kinds of mufflers that I know of: glasspack, and 'turbo' (baffled). The Ansa was glasspack, and originally made my car sound like a 6-cyl Ferrari (noticeably higher pitch). Anybody know what the originals were?
Bob

High all, I blew out my muffler on my 59 100-6. I bought a lifetime Midas warranty 42 years ago and the shop that last replaced it said that Moss has them on back order. He is will to source one if I can tell him who has one in stock. I think foreign shipping is beyond their good will. So any ideas on US companies that might have one in stock?
