Actually it refers to The furnaces of Mordor. (More latterly to be found in NZ?).

To add to Steve’s comments . . . I have a spare engine to back up my BJ8 engine.
It is from a Wolseley 6/110 Mk II and the block is exactly the same, also with part number 12B 766, and the stylised ‘M’ in the diamond directly below the engine number.
Right or wrong, I have always understood that logo to represent the engine manufacturer – Morris.
