[Healeys] Tach rebuild

Warren: Most but not all of it. I purchased the Healey in England in October, 1970, as the third owner. It had 14, 640 miles on the odo. The exhaust had been modified by removing the rear resonators and there is a metal bar behind the rear bumper that indicates that a European style tow bar had been installed. Eventually I installed an American style tow bar to pull a catamaran or a trailer that I made from the rear half of a matching late model Healey.

It has seen a tow truck four times: a suspected rear suspension problem (1992), a seriously damaged radiator (2012), repair of a bad bearing installation in a front wheel hub (my fault) (2013) and a failed clutch cylinder (2015). I'm not counting the numerous fuel pump swaps, a series of coil deaths due to a poor electronic ignition system (Allison/Crane), leaky exhaust system repairs, and other minor mishaps that were overcome on the side of the road or at home in the garage. I have always considered it a dependable vehicle ready to go anywhere, anytime.

Hoping to add a few more miles if I make it to Conclave in 2021.

  Lucky Len,

Wow! Congratulations on your miles of smiles! Are all the miles under your ownership?

High mileage Healeys are their own reward in my world. A trophy to you! This is what it is all about, DRIVING.

PS: Thought my tach deserved a pro rebuild because the needle spent so much time zipping from 0 to redline the paint was bleeding off.

  I don’t do that anymore.
