[Healeys] Differential vs BN2 OVERDRIVE

I have a 1.28 overdrive with a set of Mike Lempert’s 3.54:1 final drive gears in my 100 and I am very happy with the setup.

It is very tractable around town and relaxed cruising on the highway.

I respectfully disagree. First is so low in a Healey I often started in second before I put a 3.54 diff in my BJ8. I still start in second if I'm rolling at all, facing downhill or it just won't go into first (plenty of low-end torque in the old lump). Second is more usable as well (first and second are too close together IMO; I barely get into second before it's time to upshift). I wouldn't mind a .28 OD ratio with a 3.54 diff either.

If you change from a 3.90 to a 3.54 rear end you lose most of 1st gear. I changed my overdrive on my BJ8 to a BN2
and in 4th gear overdrive my engine operates about 600 RPM lower. It is a much better way to go.
