Hummm – did they recommend a lubricant for the speedo cable instead of the graphite?

I was just told by Foreign Speedo to never use graphic lube on the cable or near the speedo. Gunks up the works.

Speaking of graphite – is that what people are using on speedo cables these days? Good results? Bad?

Something like this?

Well, you can have a joint with dry grit/dust or with oiled grit/dust. I would still go for the latter. Perhaps if you use a spray like WD40 you may rinse the joint clean and lubricate at the same time. Problem is: WD40 lubricant does not last very long.

I have only received 3 replies & all 3 recommend some form of lubrication. I am somewhat surprised. I anticipated a split (50/50) decision. Considering the dirty, dusty, gritty environment that the unsealed linkage ball & sockets operate in, I thought some would suggest the it is better to not have any lubricant that would trap & hold the abrasive particles.

Does anyone agree with this?

A drop of oil now and then is a good idea on any car bar when ball sockets are nylon/plastic.

A little lube never hurts. Wheel bearing grease is the most persistent.
