Hi Dave,

So, my friend James and I took the train from Portland to Seattle perhaps in 1959 - I think we were 14 maybe - and got off in Kent and as I remember walked to Pacific Raceways.  http://pacificraceways.com/Some kind of sportscar race going on and we knew enough to know that Sterling Moss was in the field.   He of course won.  I remember Sterling passing another competitor in a corner - hard for me to believe.  But that was not the shock for me.  So, trophy time and on the bandstand is Miss Tulip  or Tacoma or some other little cutie and the trophy is handed up to Sterling by Miss Tulip and he reaches down, picks her up, and proceeds to suck her face off.  Yup.  Little Miss Tulip had never had that happen.  James and I were staggered.  My question to you was what the hell was Sterling Moss doing at Pacific Raceways?  I do know, as I am a Mini fan (had two of them in the 1960’s when I was a student at the UW, Seattle), that his sister was a physicist and worked on the suspension designs for the Mini and perhaps a driver as well?

Keep well,

All the best,

Andy

Not bike racing but car racing and a new look at Patrick Stewart if you're a Trek fan..  I happened to idolize Moss, and was very fortunate to spend a day with him at a Santa fe car show as co-judges. I felt just like Stewart

at the conclusion of our meeting.. FWIW

PS I idolized Moss as a kid. I grew up with foreign sports cars and SCCA racing... many of my nutty bike design ideas came from race car thinking.. again FWIW. dp
