Birch plywood would be very suitable as it does not splinter working on
it or on impact. However it is very sensitive to woodworm, so it should
be properly treated and it is best to give it a few coats of varnish,
paint or preservative after all holes have been made to protect it from
the damp and insects. Do not forget to fit a PE sheet on the outside of
the door card, suspended between door card and door frame at the top and
hanging inside the door frame at the bottom to drain away any water
entering. Make sure the drain holes in the door bottom are clean and not
blocked.
