[Healeys] Fuel gauge damper's super capacitor

I agree with Kees. Even though you made several coils in the wire it could eventually stress crack and break. If it does, and the two ends are close together, under the right conditions you could get a spark across it. Might not be good.I am considering doing this to my sender this winter, but I'll use braided wire.John O'Brien '65 BJ8'61 BugeyeSent from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7.

It may be better to use a length of braided wire which is very
flexibel and not prone to breaking up easily, similar to the wire
in the distributer.

I have read about this idea many times and never
heard of anyone having their tank explode as a result ...
probably because they didn't survive!!!
Such a modification is really not necessary as
the following solution works perfectly.

Don't do it. Petrol will ignite if sufficient energy is
applied. A capacitor could provide such energy.

Hi,
Questions for the tech type
super-gurus.
See the attached article,
something I picked up on the internet &/or from
this list.
I’ve finally got round to doing
it and have bought a pair of super-capacitors (SC),
below:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pcs-4-0F-5-5-V-Super-Capacitor-H-Type-Button-Smart-Capacitance-Universal/272412952404?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649
The article infers to me, at
least, that the + terminal of the SC is wired
directly to the same terminal connection on the
gauge as the wire from the tank sender unit. The –
terminal is earthed. How does that system work?
Won’t the tank’s fluctuating signal, for want of a
better word, simply bypass the SC and carry on
flickering the needle??
And, assuming I ever get the
wiring sorted out, will the SC get hot? Mine has a
metal case and I’ve had to thoroughly insulate it. I
have visions of the fuel gauge working nicely until
the insulation catches fire………
