Good point.

If you buy kits, you wind up with duplicate tools.

The taps/dies that one buys individually tend to be better and to cost more too. But, you only buy the sizes that you need…….

Likewise, the tools that come in the kits aren’t that great either….You get what you pay for. I was looking for some the other day; some kits on eBay looked like they’d break before you took them out of the box.

I'd go for the SAE/Metric set and buy BSF taps/dies as needed.  IIRC, I only needed one BSF tap on our BN2 (think it was the exhaust manifold->downpipe studs, and I had to install inserts, but not sure).  Either way, British Tools and Fasteners should have what you need:
