OK, I misread the comments, I forgot the older Healey used two six volt
batteries to produce 12 volts in series. You could, if originality isn't
important, use a single 12 volt battery connected to the "ends" of the
string, effectively eliminating one of the original batteries. I still
don't recommend paralleling two batteries, as the two will never be equal in
voltage or internal resistance and will discharge each other quicker than
just using a single battery. It would work if the two were isolated by a
diode isolator to prevent back-feeding from one battery to the other. A
single 12 volt battery will be the best solution.

It works as Healeys use 12 volt systems. It is a great idea if only the
concours judges would approve. The tar tops I bought 9 months ago are
starting to crack and leak. A real problem if you are concerned about
originality.

Sorry George, that will not work, you will end up with a 12 volt battery
with even higher amperage capability and will damage everything in the car's
6 volt system.

Just get two 12V gel batteries and hook them up in "parallel".
They don't leak and hold a charge for a long time.
Try Optima or Odyssey brands.
