[Healeys] engine identification

As far as BJ8 29K engines are concerned, once the serial number tag is gone there is no way to identify that block again. The heads are not serialized separately. The engine serial tag is attached with two things that look like rivets, but they have a very loose thread and can be turned out like a screw if a slot is cut into the head. The aluminum tag will dissolve partially or completely in hot tank cleaning chemicals if not removed from the block. My personal observation has shown that that has happened to a very many engines. Replacing the tag on an engine that was missing the tag when you got it does not necessarily make that engine the same serial number as it was when it left the factory.

Subject: [Healeys] engine identification

Hello

How do you ID an engine block/or head……that does not have an ID tag?

Do the engine block casting numbers mean anything?
