The heads are not serialized separately. The engine serial tag is attached with two things that look like rivets, but they have a very loose thread and can be turned out like a screw if a slot is cut into the head. The aluminum tag will dissolve partially or completely in hot tank cleaning chemicals if not removed from the block. My personal observation has shown that that has happened to a very many engines.
