I can’t ignore the fuel.  Unless the tank was drained and filled with fresh fuel in France, the gas in that US car probably has Ethanol in it, and a long boat ride and customs visit might mean the gas has gone bad. I’d either drain the tank (use it in a lawn mower) or once it is started, keep driving until you’ve burned through the tank, and fill with fresh gasoline (or petrol :).
