Chrome shops in California are almost extinct. And good ones are even harder to find. We as well as several other restoration shops that I know of use a place in Lodi Ca.

The factory installed the rubber buffers on the shroud lip so that the hood / bonnet would have something to support it between the hinges and the front latch. If you don't see a small mark on your bonnet paint were the buffers are, chances are there is no support. Try laying a 1/16 inch thick piece or rubber (old inner tube) on top of the buffer and close the bonnet. See if the hood still shakes. It may take two. When the buffers are in contact the bonnet will not shake side to side. Permanent solution is to properly install the buffers.

Was leaving the clinic in Redlands to get on the freeway back to San Bernardino yesterday and saw a big Healey going in the opposite direction. ?It was a blue late 6 cylinder model. ?looked like it had fog lights mounted above the bumper. ?Unusual to see a Healey during a regular work day in this area. Anyone on the list?Mike MacLean

The key and/or keyway tolerances are off, or it could be the key is not the correct one for the pin-tumbler. Check the key and pin-tumbler numbers for the later issue. Get a newly cut key that matches the pin-tumbler number to fix the tolerance problem. Sorry I don?t have any recommendations for key replacement suppliers but I am sure some knowledgeable member will.

I have a very unusual problem. I recently acquired a 66 BJ8 and have an issue with the glove box. The key fits into the lock and turns about 45 degrees but does not lock and the key cannot be removed.

When I remove the lock from the door and assemble it, the key turns 90 degrees, locks and the key can be removed.

I have enclosed a photo of the parts of my lock. I suspect that I may be missing some parts.

Does anyone have an idea for a fix or a photo of the interior parts of their lock?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Fred -

You should have a little teflon or fibre spacer between the lock and the
backplate, if that's missing, you will get the symptoms you have.
