[Healeys] Hi Guys, I am wondering if anyone knows if there is one long spring pin that holds the shift lever in place on the BJ8 or two short ones? If there are two how long would each one be? Many thanks. Brad Holden

Brad, the BMC Mechanical Service Parts List (AKD 3523) for BJ7 and BJ8 shows two rollpins, P/N RPS1210, used for BJ7 gearboxes and BJ8 gearboxes serial numbers 101 - 1441 to secure the gearshift lever. For BJ8 gearboxes, serial numbers 1442 and up, two threaded "Locating pins", P/N 2A3602 are shown instead of rollpins. The original gearbox for your BJ8 was 12706, so it should have the two threaded locating pins (and a spring washer under each) if it is still the original. The locating pin looks like a normal hex-head screw with an unthreaded part at the end of the shank that fits into the holes in the ball of the gearshift lever.

I have a spare BJ7 gearbox with the rollpins. They are about an inch long, as I recall, but they are not accessible to me right now to measure them.
