[Healeys] SU Needles & OIL ( or lack of )

G'day Mark
My current needle is OA7 the spring is Red but my plugs are still black &
sooty It will idle ok but not super smooth .
By swapping to OA8 (lean) needles I am hoping to rectify my problem
The car has 23 miles from a complete rebuild including carbys rebuilt buy
SU Midell ( the local SU Distributors)
I am running NGK BP6ES-11 plugs
