Really that needed to be posted to whole list??? You have never said anything you thought was correct, and then realized you were mistaken when someone corrected you? I offer assistance based on what I believe to be accurate and true based on over 40 years of working on Austin Healeys and cars in general. I try to pay back or forward for all of the assistance I have received on this list. I am not always entirely correct, but the basic premise that it was a 3000 and not a 100-6 was in fact the important piece he needed to sort out his pistons. I would hope that if you feel a need to negatively comment on my post you would do it off list and to me directly.

To 1960 MKI 3000 29Dxxx engines were fitted. You need to ask BMIHT to correct your certificate.

    29Fxxx engine is from a BJ7.

      Hi Bud,
      A 29F engine is from a 3000 MkII around 1962.
The bores are 3.281" whereas the original engine for your car had a bore of 3.125".
It is very likely that the carbs and manifolds from the 100/6 were used because a 29F engine had 3 carbs requiring different manifolds, throttle linkage and various other details.
Depending upon how accurately you want to restore the car you could leave that block in or try to find an original 100/6 block.
You really have to know your Healeys to be able to tell the difference externally.
If that degree of accuracy is not required I would suggest that you rebuild the 3000 engine and use it.

I am rebuilding my100-6 BN4. I ordered a set of pistons. When they came in the mechanic showed me they were too small. I have reached the conclusion that the engine must have been swapped out at some point. The number on the block is 29f/1H 5487. Can anyone tell from this # what the engine might be.
        Thanks for any help.
