[Healeys] alloy brake / clutch master cylinders

Greetings -

    Am I missing something?  I have rebuilt these on british cars
before and I have never had the trouble I have had on these!  They are
original master cylinders off of a '57 100-6 and I have tried several
different rebuild kits (including Moss) and none seem to fit or work worth a
darn!  The pistons freeze up, they don't pump fluid or return when pushed it,
etc.  Is there something that needs to be done to the cylinder itself?  I have
honed these lightly but because they are alloy, did I just ruin them.  Any
insight would be appreciated.  Thanks!
