The SU pump is pretty reliable if you give it a bit of attention now and
than. First: use the car regularly, second: clean the points once in a
while by sliding a piece of (rough) carton, not fine wet and dry,
between the points as per original recommendation. I have had no
problems with the SU fuel pump which I have since 1977. It was on my
first Jensen Healey for 160.000mls and 11 yrs, than was operated once a
year for 10 yrs, left untouched for another 10yrs in a dry and heated
garage and is now on my present JH. The pump was never overhauled or
rebuild.
