[Healeys] Painting chrome

I am tired of painting the the silver on the chrome grill each year (BJ8). It
takes an hour just to mask everything off. It scratches off in a short time. I
have tried light sanding (400 wet dry ) then paint. I have tried seveal coats
of paint. I just tried three coats of etching primer and two coats of silver
and I can tell it has not adhered well. What do you guys use that works?
