[Healeys] BJ8 Gearbox Removal

G'day

Many thanks to everyone and I can now say that I have joined the ranks of
BJ8 gearbox removalists.

I had been having trouble selecting gears and my first thoughts was the
hydraulics. New rubbers and a flexible hose later it was working perfectly,
then my son drove the car and it became a clutchless Austin-Healey in the
middle of a busy highway. I managed to return it from whence it came by
starting in 1st and staying in 1st all the way.

Has to be the carbon thrust, I started thinking.

Had the trim and tunnel out by morning smoko and the gearbox itself out by
lunch. Time consuming, but straightforward even if you have to lift it and
then swivel it around the part of the firewall that is there in this model.
Armed with a used BJ8 carbon thrust I was ready to change over immediately,
but the one in the car looked to be in excellent, but used condition. The
BN3 has a BJ8 clutch which I have all new stuff for.

Then followed some head scratching over lunch. With the inner me satisfied I
removed the pressure plate and during that I had the pleasure of hearing a
degree of tinkling as springs and other bits of metal fell onto the concrete
floor. The driven plate had broken up.

Luckily I had a perfectly good used plate from the BN3 and it all went back
together without difficulty.

BTW. I picked up the Healey Duncan Sports Saloon from Port Botany yesterday.
That's the main Sydney port to those elsewhere in the world. Lovely, but
quirky.
