[Healeys] 2 small holes in boot floor

I have discovered 2 small 1/4"  holes in the floor of the trunk of an early
3000.  They are under the gas tank and about 5-1/2" directly  forward of the
holes for the tank hold down straps. At first, I thought they were unique to
the car I was working on, but I have now seen the same holes in a 100-6 and in
another 3000.  Anyone know why these holes are there?
