>From Anderson/ Moment: " A brake servo-assist unit manufactured by Girling
was made available as an option on the Mark II's in September 1961, beginning
with C.15104 (though it was rarely installed). This option may have been made
available in response to published road tests that criticized the high brake
effort required on the early Mark II's."

Clausager says: "......August, 1961, when on the 3000 Mark II model, from
Chassis 15104, a Girling vacuum servo unit was offered as an optional extra.
This became a standard fitting on the Mark III model in 1963, from chassis
25315." The Mark II was introduced in March of 1961, at C. 13751, by the
way.

The factory Parts List for the Mark II shows it, but with no further hint
given as to optional or not. The BJ7/ 8 Parts List says "Optional Extra- BJ7,
Standard Equipment- BJ8" (C. H-BJ7-17551 to 24314, H-BJ8- 25315 to 25399 on
for first type of servo, 25400 approx on for later type). The early servo
differed a bit in the plumbing, and the list says "When stock exhausted, use
the later type".

Rich Chrysler's Mark II tricarb had a servo fitted, but it wasn't original to
the car. The originality guru always gave a sheepish grin: "Hey, it COULD
have been fitted".

Best regards
Peter
