[Healeys] purpose of brass nuts

Best to use the special copper covered self-locking nuts with flat steel
washers. They often can also be had with a smaller than standard AF size
to make fitting a bit easier when space is tight. Alternatively you can
use tall brass nuts (for extra strength) arguably with split washers or
cup washers. Specially with steel nuts with split or cup washers for
apply copious amounts of copper-paste anti-seize compound on the
threaded studs and in the nuts. It will not do any harm either with
copper coated or brass nuts.
Because of the extreme heat and subsequent corrosion you will experience
less problems when undoing copper coated/brass exhaust manifold nuts
than with steel nuts.
Hairline cracks in manifolds often has to do with fitting the wrong
gaskets in the past, thus deforming the manifold to much. Make sure that
both surfaces are perfectly dead flat (milling machine) and fit the
manifold preferably with a thin copper gasket or with a heat resistant
sealant without gasket as often is done with the big Chrijsler V8's and
their cast iron exhaust manifolds.

The last time I had the manifold off, I decided that the factory brass nuts were sort of tall and giving a little extra grief during header installation gyrations so I used plain steel nuts. Does someone know the purpose of the brass? Corrosion resistance is all I can think of.
