[Healeys] Oil pressure

Darin,

Priming the oil pump is essential in rebuilding the engine. This will
produce instant pressure when starting the engine the first time. You must
have oil pressure as fast as possible when restarting a rebuilt engine or
any engine that has been sitting for an extended time.

When I rebuilt my engine, I removed the oil pump and then the cover on the
bottom of the pump. I packed the pump rotor with Vaseline and rotated the
pump just a bit until the Vaseline started to emerge from the pump outlet.
At that point, I packed more Vaseline into the pump body, replaced the
cover and installed the pump.

As a result of the pump being packed, there was immediate suction of oil
from the pan and immediate oil pressure when then engine started.

Good luck,

Fred
