[Healeys] Extra choke lever on HD8s...What is this?

Richard - any idea what the carb numbers are - are either of the number tags
still present? I have an old SU carb application book - if you have the
numbers, I can probably identify them. They're probably from a Jag, but as
far as I can remember, the jag HD8's were all 'straight up' bodies.

I don't think they are from a Rover. They have the tilted float bowls for a
Healey. Rover used the straight up float bowls. And I know the bowls are
not
from an HD6 because a couple of years ago I tried to convert a pair of Rover
HD8s using HD6 bowls and it doesn't work.

Whatever it is, it's not from a BJ8 so make sure you replace the needles and
dash pot springs accordingly. Also check pistons that they aren't
weighted,
rovers used heavy pistons so just because they are HD8s doesn't make them
appropriate for the Healey. I suspect these are out of a Jag e-type or 420
of
some sort, if so then they should be okay with new springs and needles.

I recently bought a pair of HD8s for an Austin Healey on eBay. Each one has
an extra choke lever on the bottom just like the HD6 carb s from earlier
3000s. I'm not complaining. I connected the two levers with a rod and clevis
just like the earlier cars. I will use a single choke cable, and I will
locate the pull under the windshield wiper motor mounting bracket. The
cable
will loop over an around to the front of the inner fender and point directly
back to the front carb. It is a very clean installation, and out of sight.
I
like this a lot more than the two cables coming off the firewall that the
BJ8s
have.
Does anyone know anything about this type of HD8 that has extra choke levers
on the lower side?
